Barn Theater

Join a procession and ceremony led by the spirit, creatures, and entities of the Barn Theater to celebrate and acknowledge its history.

"Barnaissance" is a 2-day devised ritual performance.

Day 1 (Saturday, May 25) will use the form of a procession to move from the Theater Arts Center down to the Barn Theater at the main entrance to campus. A series of student-devised rituals that acknowledge the spirit of the barn will ceremonially unfold upon arrival to the Barn Theater, directly following the procession. The rituals will honor the history and the impact of the Barn and the spirit of the arts at UC Santa Cruz.

Day 2 (Sunday, May 26) will begin at the Barn Theater, with a similar ceremony to confront a longstanding tension within the Barn’s history, and to close the energy woken up on Day 1. Participants will then process back up to the Theater Arts Center, reversing the path down taken the day before.
